Cheap Valentine Gifts for Your Girlfriend

Unless you really want to be in the dog house, sleeping on the couch or hear, “I’m fine!” for days, you better become familiar with what the best Valentine gifts for your girlfriend are this year.

If you are one of the lucky guys, your girlfriend may be kind enough to come out and tell you what she wants. She might even go put it on hold at the store for you to make sure that you get the right thing! Of course, not many men live in this perfect world so chances are, you’re hearing, “I’ll love whatever you get me!” which translates to, “You better not mess this up again this year!”

Understand that the list of best Valentine gifts for girlfriends may not be appropriate in every situation. If you have just started dating, an extravagant gift may make her feel awkward.

On the other hand, if you purchased her a diamond pendant and a week in Fiji last year, don’t even think about only giving her a Kindle unless it’s loaded with at least 1,000 books.

Best Valentine Gifts for Your Girlfriend

• Kindle – If your girlfriend doesn’t have a Kindle yet, this is a must! Now there’s even more options to choose from like the very budget-friendly 6 inch or the new Kindle Fire.

• Winter Wear – There are a lot of ideas in this category that fall on the list of best Valentine gifts for girlfriends. If your girlfriend skis or spends a lot of time outside, appropriate snow gear or sunglasses are great ideas. Warm long-sleeved tops and hoodies from her favorite store are always appreciated and hats, mittens and scarves are perfect gifts for new relationships.

• Good Smelling Stuff – If your girlfriend loves candles, stock up on plenty of soy candles, these make great stocking stuffers too. If you think she’ll love to soak in the tub and read the Kindle that you’re getting her, pick up some bubble bath. Is she the type that indulges in the finest perfumes? Buy her a bottle that she’s running low on or a new type she’s been hinting about.

• Thoughtful Items – Not everything on the list of best Valentine gifts for your girlfriend has to be expensive. A Kate Spade desktop calendar, Williams-Sonoma hot chocolate, music gift card, iPod Nano or an herb garden starter set are all great ideas. These are things she’ll appreciate and use but wouldn’t necessarily splurge on herself.

• Jewelry – Sometimes, as predictable as it may be, jewelry is the one gift that you know will put a smile on her face. Valentines is the perfect time of year to buy that engagement ring she’s been waiting for and hide it in a cheesy ornament.

A silver bangle bracelet engraved on the inside is always a unique idea or an unusual hand-blown glass pendant may be an option as well. Keep in mind that the best Valentine gifts for your girlfriend are always going to be the ones you put a little careful thought into.

Popular Valentine Gift Baskets

Valentine gift baskets can be either purchased premade, ordered and delivered or put together yourself. They are truly ideal to give to anyone on your holiday shopping list! Many people think of Valentine gift baskets and imagine chocolate or bath spa products but the possibilities in this category are truly endless.

Buy vs. Design Your Own

When you start your holiday shopping whether in the store or online, you find that a multitude of thoughtful manufacturers have made your task easy by creating baskets for you. However, if you want to provide a more personalized present you can easily make Valentine gift baskets yourself. Simply buy the items and then purchase inexpensive baskets from a craft store and put them together them at home. If you are on a tight budget, this is a good way to avoid those extra fees that often come along with pre-packaged ones.

Popular Valentine Gift Baskets

• Coffee – These are easy Valentine gift baskets that you can buy, make or order at the last minute. Who doesn’t love gourmet coffee, a novelty mug and perhaps some cookies or a coffee cake? This is a perfect idea for anyone on your list that you’re a little stumped over too!

• Candy and Chocolates – Imagine a basket full of truffles and other treats wrapped in shiny holiday gift paper. Remember, nearly all specialty bakers make fudge and other holiday goodies that you can buy and put into a basket.

• Spa – If you have a female on your list Valentine gift baskets full of sea salts, scrubs, bubble baths, lotions and candles are the perfect choice. Do make sure that if the person you are buying for is vegan or prefers organic products that you check labels.

• Beer and Wine – Imported and specialty brews and exotic wines paired up with delicious cheese are both great Valentine gift baskets for any adult in your life. You don’t have to consider yourself a drinker to appreciate a thirst-quenching, delicious beverage from time to time.

• Odds and Ends – Why not create Valentine gift baskets full of the person’s favorite things? Isn’t it a lot nicer than wrapping separate gifts or tossing everything in a gift bag? Why not give a basket full of video games, Transformers toys, cookbooks, etc.? Creating your own Valentine gift baskets out of items you know the person will love shows how much thought you really put into making their day special.

Valentine Gifts for Dad

For some people, shopping for Valentines gifts for dad is even more challenging than picking something out for mom.

Sure, dad says that he doesn’t want anything but deep down he is hoping someone finally listened to him complain all year about wanting a new putter or an oversized driver that all of his golf buddies have.

Dads don’t typically drop as many hints as moms do but they are still hoping for something spectacular too.

Popular Valentine Gifts for Dad

• Electronics – If your dad is like most others, he probably loves electronics! Of course, some dads are a little behind the times and are just now learning that some things exist like portable GPS units! What a fantastic invention are these helpful devices! Other electronics for dad include a laptop, netbook, iPad or a Kindle Fire. If you get mom a Kindle too then they can participate in the 14-day book lend that Amazon offers for Kindle users as well as  passage share.

• Golf Stuff – Most people who are stumped for Valentine gifts for dads forget about this very essential category. The vast majority of fathers spend some time on the course, some more than others. Clubs, bags, balls, tees and even golf apparel are all excellent choices.

• Fishing Supplies – Does your dad look forward to his quiet Saturday morning fishing trips where he rarely catches anything but always have a story to tell? Fishing poles, lures, a tackle box or even UV-resistant apparel that protects against the sun and biting insects may be absolutely perfect gifts.

• DVD Box Set – Valentine gifts for dad should be items that he would not necessarily purchase himself. The John Wayne Western Collection, Dirty Harry Ultimate Edition or the Clint Eastwood Collection are all great options.

• Patio Essentials – Why not get dad that new grill he has had his eye on or a mini keg cooler to store his favorite import beer in? If your dad works hard all day, you could always opt for an oversized hammock too that he can come home and relax on. Doesn’t he deserve a little relaxation time?

• Power Tools – There are few people that will argue that power tools are some of the best Valentine gifts for dad. You better believe that even if he has no need for what you get him, he will find a project that simply must be done so he can use it. This category can also include a new lawn mower, weed-eater or snow blower too!

Best Gift Ideas for Women

Coming Up with Gift Ideas for Women

It is not uncommon to see men walking around malls looking lost, angry and frustrated, trying to find gift ideas for women.

Even the toughest guys who can handle black eyes from rugby or bruised shins from soccer may find themselves a little teary-eyed after a day of shopping.

Women can be beyond challenging to buy for but at the same time, it’s really not that difficult if you know where to get your inspiration from.

Listen for Hints

Sometimes the best gift ideas for women are the ones you are literally being told over and over again. If the female in your life is constantly telling you that you just don’t listen, maybe you need to start. Well, at least until the holidays are over!

Women drop hints all year-round of things they want. When you hear her say that she needs a new yoga mat, that’s a hint! Complaining that her sunglasses are scratched is a hint for you to buy a new pair. Talking about the new handbag her friend received is telling you to take note of the brand and buy a better one! So many men stress out when they are looking for gift ideas for women when all they really need to do is learn to recognize hints.

Don’t be Generic

Going to the jewelry store and asking for the pendant on the cover of their weekly flyer is rarely going to go over very well. Women want to feel special; they don’t want the same exact thing that everyone else in the grocery store line will be wearing the week after Christmas.

If you know she loves gray turtlenecks because she wears them all the time, this doesn’t mean you should buy another one to add to the collection. Maybe she wears them because you keep on buying them but that doesn’t meant that she doesn’t secretly wish you’d expand your color palette.

Think Outside the Box

Even budget-friendly gift ideas for women can be a little more glamorous with a bit of creativity. Send her on a scavenger hunt to find her present or wrap a bunch of boxes inside one another and hide the present in one.

Gift ideas for women should be things that she wouldn’t traditionally buy for herself. If she’s a runner, she probably has plenty of apparel and visors but will she ever splurge on a Garmin Forerunner for herself? Could you ever see her buying a gel tabletop fireplace for the bathroom for her long soaks in the tub? Of course, a towel warmer may be appreciated as well. Choose things that she would love to have but wouldn’t necessarily squeeze into her own budget.

Best Winter Wear Gifts

When you are stuck for ideas or simply need a few stocking stuffers, winter wear gifts are ideal. There are a tremendous number of things you can buy in every price range, so they can be great presents for new relationships, gift exchanges, nieces and nephews, siblings, etc. Below are winter wear gifts that are sure to put a smile on someone’s face and actually get used this holiday season.

Click your Flag or Closest to you to See Great Deals!

Winter Coats

Although these are traditionally going to be pricier gifts, you can find some less expensive options as well. The first thing to decide is if you want to buy the person a dressy coat, or one they can go snowboarding or sledding in. If you are going with the more casual approach, you will want to check out brands like The North Face, Columbia, Spyder, Smarty, Bogner Fire & Ice, Boulder Gear, Burton, Canada Goose and Chalet.

Headwear

Who knew that buying winter wear for someone’s head could be so fun, and confusing? You will want to consider when the person will wear the headwear. Will it most likely be just to spruce up an outfit, or do they put in a few cold miles with their dogs in the morning and could really use something that will keep their head warm? Beanies are popular options; they can be plain, or some have long ears, pompoms or visors on them. You may also want to consider fun novelty hats with funky dreads or alien antennas for the skier in your life.

Are you buying winter wear for a girl who always has her hair in a ponytail or bun? You will want to explore options like warm headbands, earmuffs or hats that actually have a hole to fit a ponytail through.

Neckwear

Gaiters and scarves are a great way to keep warm  when you’re outside in the cold. Even if you buy a hat, you can always look for neckwear to match, or buy them together as a set. If you are unfamiliar with what a gaiter is, you pull it over your head and around your neck, simile to a scarf but without the long pieces that hang.

Everything Else

You should already know that gloves and mittens are on the list of winter wear gifts, but there are many other ideas that haven’t been explored yet. You may also want to consider snowshoes, socks, hand and feet warmers, base layers, sunglasses, sunscreen, lip balm, fleece jackets and boots.

Giving to Charity at Christmas

Rescues, shelters and nonprofit organizations are beyond grateful for those who participate in giving to charity at Christmas. In fact, many organizations raise a significant amount of the money that they need to operate all year, in just a few short weeks.

It is a very rewarding experience to give to those in need, and every little bit helps. Always remember that no one can do everything but everyone can do something!

Time or Money?

Giving to charity at Christmas does not only include making cash donations. You can give your time as well. Go to a nursing home and play a few games with someone, and let them tell you stories of their younger days. Do you love animals? There are literally millions of animals in shelters that would love an extra walk or a little one-on-one time. For many, it is their last day on earth, as animal are euthanized for space every day. Don’t they deserve a walk and a scratch behind their ear?

Alternatively, if you don’t want to donate cash, you can always buy some blankets, gloves, hats and scarves, and go downtown of any major city and hand them out to the homeless at night. Take a few thermal containers of hot cocoa or coffee and cups with you too.

Choosing a Charity

Giving to charity at Christmas can be a great gift for someone as well. If someone you know does the walk for breast cancer every year, make a donation to that charity in their name. Is your child always talking about saving the polar bears or tigers? Donate a few dollars and frame the certificate for them.

If you simply want to start giving to charity at Christmas because you are in a generous mood, there are an endless supply of them to choose from. Either pick one that you are really passionate about, or spread your donation money out over several places. Don’t underestimate what an impact a very small amount can have.

Don’t Stop Giving

Many people are in the habit of giving to charity at Christmas because it is tax deductible. If this is your reason for giving, your money is still very much appreciated! However, it’s important to understand that charity should not stop with Christmas. There are humans and animals in need all year-round. Make a point to squeeze in a couple hours of your time to volunteer or go without your expensive coffee just one day a week and donate that money instead. Then, you can feel good all year!

Best Christmas Gifts for Your Animals

If you are like many others, you likely put just as much thought into buying Christmas gifts for your animals as you do for the humans in your life, maybe more!

Sure, they get toys and treats all year, just like kids, but this is the perfect time of year to splurge on something extra special for the four-legged friend in your life.

Dogs

• Treadmill – Do you have a dog that has an endless supply of energy, or perhaps you don’t have a backyard for him to run? Treadmills are the perfect Christmas gifts for your animals. Some have side guards, incline and many other features to choose from.

• Bed – Isn’t it time you invested in a nice therapeutic bed or perhaps a plush one that looks like a chaise or couch?

• Winter Wear – A nice coat, boots or sweater sure would be appreciated by a small breed or even a short-haired large breed.

• Pet Wagon – Why not take your small dog with you when you go running or for a bike ride? Pets can simply ride along in their own pet wagon. Some attach to the back of a bike while others are pushed, similar to a baby jogger.

• Toys  – It can be tempting to just buy that cute little clearance stuffed animal in the kid’s toy store, but dogs can chew and eat buttons, hair, bows, etc. The best Christmas gifts for your animals are no-stuffing animals, or products from Kong and Nylabone. Interactive toys are always a good idea if your pet tends to get bored easy.

Cats

• Cat Condos and Trees – These are available in an array of sizes, styles and colors. Some are large enough for several cats to lounge on the many platforms, while others offer a nice small hiding spot for your feline friend.

• Scratching Post – Some of the best Christmas gifts for your animals are those that are going to save your furniture. It is natural for a cat to scratch, they just need an appropriate place to do it.

• Self-warming Pet Bed – What could be better than a bed that increases in temperature when the cat’s weight is applied? Of course, any plush bed will probably be appreciated as well.

• Insulated House – Do you have a cat that never wants to come inside, even on cold nights? A fully insulated cat house will certainly offer you peace-of-mind, knowing that your cat has a warm place to go, if he comes home after you are already sleeping.

• Crinkle Tunnels – Last on the list of Christmas gifts for your animals are crinkle tunnels. They are available in different lengths, widths, colors and price ranges so there is one to match the décor of any home. Chances are good, you will find your cat sleeping in their secret tunnel more than they play in it.

Remembering the Elderly this Christmas

Remembering the elderly this Christmas is the perfect way to make someone’s holiday  very special. You may be surprised at just how good you feel when you make a bit of time for someone else. Quite often, when you see what a difference you have made, you will agree that giving really is better than receiving!

Volunteer

If you knew how many seniors are in assisted living facilities and spend their holidays all alone, it would break your heart. Why not spend a few hours visiting with them, or you can also ask a nurse who receives the least number of visitors, and send them a plant or a nice flower arrangement. Some have family that live out of town, others are simply forgotten about; your visit would mean a lot.

Take Care of Your Neighbor

Do you have an elderly neighbor? Would it be so difficult to bake some cookies and take them over? If you are only having a small gathering at your house, or if you are spending Christmas alone, why not invite them over? If you have leftovers, package them up and take them over after you eat. There is a good chance that they may not even be getting a traditional Christmas dinner.

Perhaps you could stop by a few days before Christmas when you go do your grocery shopping, and ask if they need anything; they may want to cook something special but don’t have the means to get it from the store. It is really important to make the time to check in on your elderly neighbors, especially if they are single; this includes the rest of the year too, not just during the holidays.

Deliver Meals

There are nonprofit programs in most communities that deliver Christmas dinner to seniors in need. These organizations cannot operate without generous volunteers who can give a couple hours of their time to deliver meals to a few seniors, while also staying to visit for a few minutes. If you are gathering Christmas Eve like many families do, consider spending Christmas doing something besides louging on the couch, eating leftovers.

If you are one of those people who is literally running from one house to another for 2 days straight because you are married and have large families, consider donating. A very small amount of money can help fund dinners for these seniors. Just because you can’t be there in person does not mean you can’t make a difference.

Xmas Gift Ideas

Have you ever noticed that you probably have a long list of Xmas gift ideas for one person but then draw a blank for someone else? Even someone you may know very well like a parent or sibling can be hard to buy for sometimes.

Of course, then there’s always that person on your list that truly does have it all; what are you supposed to buy for someone like this?

Don’t be Generic

The last thing that you want to do is buy the same thing as someone else. It can be easy to just grab a gift card to the mall or put money in a card but where’s the thought? If you know your niece has told everyone that she wants a specific Barbie, don’t but it without checking to see if someone else already got it first. You can always buy something else that’s Barbie-related.

Don’t Duplicate

Are you looking for Xmas gift ideas for your employees, your child’s teachers or all your nieces and nephews? Avoid giving everyone the same exact gift or at least switch it up a little. If you’re giving soy candles, buy a variety of scents. Buying fuzzy mittens for everyone? Choose different colors. If you are giving gift cards, at least put them in envelopes with the names written on the front.

Be Thoughtful about Gift Cards

Many people who are stumped on Xmas gift ideas fall into the trap of simply buying gift cards because they don’t know what else to get. If you are going to give these, be thoughtful about it. Keep in mind that restaurant gift cards rarely get used unless you choose an establishment that you know the gift receiver loves or one that is too expensive for them to squeeze into their budget.

You also have to consider that buying inexpensive gift cards to a clothing store for children is typically going to require the parent to have to come up with money to pay for the balance of whatever the child picks out.

The two most practical and appreciated gift cards you should buy if you are stumped for Xmas gift ideas are music or movie gift cards. Even an inexpensive gift card to the Amazon or Apple Music Store will buy a tremendous amount of   music. This allows the gift receiver to truly pick out what they want without spending any more money.

Movie gift cards are excellent ideas as well, especially for those last minute guests that your kids bring home with them from college. Most theaters are even open on Christmas and Christmas Eve so you can drive over there really quick while everyone’s eating dessert.

Christmas Presents Ideas

In a perfect world, Christmas presents ideas will stare you right in the face, written neatly on a wish list. Unfortunately, most people don’t live in this dreamland.

They are granted empty messages of, “Don’t get me anything!”, “I really don’t care!” and “I’ll love anything you buy!” Really? Is it so hard to offer a little help to a troubled shopper?

If you are like most, you find yourself walking aimlessly around the mall, looking for anything that will inspire ideas for Christmas presents ideas. Sorry to tell you, Santa doesn’t have time to walk through and help everyone shop. Do you love being pummeled by crowds, standing in lines, getting overheated because you should have left your coat in the car and sneezed on by people who should have stayed home? If not, why put yourself through this abuse and waste your day?

Evaluate the Person

When you are stumped for Christmas presents ideas, the first thing you need to do is take a good hard look at the person you are shopping for. Think outside the box! Sure, it’s easy to tell what clothes they like, or know what type of perfume they wear but you need to look beyond these things.

If they are newly retired, maybe they’d like to start a new hobby or collection with things like radio-controlled vehicles or toy trains. If you know that they are training for a marathon, a music gift card sure would be put to good use. Are they always in the garden? Tools, wide-brimmed hats, plant markers or even garden accessories like a bird bath or solar fountain are good ideas as well.

Make a List

It doesn’t matter if you are struggling for Christmas presents ideas or not, you really should create a list. Write down everyone you need to buy for as well as a few things you think (or know) that they’ll love. This will help you stay on budget as well. If you have an amount you are allowing yourself to spend this holiday season, divide that up. As you complete each person, cross them off the list and make a note of how much you spent. This way, if you were under budget on someone, you can use the money elsewhere if needed. If you go over on one person, you will need to really look for a good sale for someone else.

Shop Online

Sure, shopping the day after Thanksgiving is fun and there are some crazy good deals to be found but that’s about it. The weeks to follow equal a dwindling selection, grouchy customers and frustrated employees who have been dealing with insane crowds.

During this time, you can typically find better deals if you shop online and you don’t have to drive to three different shopping centers to find something in stock. Not to mention, many sites offer free shipping. Why leave your house when you can have everything delivered to you. Get creative with your Christmas presents ideas this year and then make your life easier by shopping online.

Cheap Christmas Stocking Fillers

Christmas stocking fillers are really what makes the holiday so fun. Sure, unwrapping all the shiny presents with ribbons and bows that are under the tree can put a smile one anyone’s face but it’s diving into that oversized, bulging stocking that you’ve had your eye on that’s really exciting.

You can often guess what presents are due to box size and by giving them a little shake when no one is looking but there’s no way to know what’s in that stocking unless you ruin the surprise completely and look inside (which you wouldn’t dare think about doing).

Best Christmas Stocking Fillers

• Music Cards – Nearly anyone in your family will appreciate a music gift card from the Amazon or Apple Music Store. These can be stuffed right down in the toe and no one will ever know they are in there!

• Winter Stuff – Hats, mittens, earmuffs, fuzzy socks and scarves are all ideal to stuff in a stocking. You can even wrap smaller gifts inside of them.

• Sweets and Treats – Holiday chocolates, candies and pistachios are always ideal Christmas stocking fillers. Just make sure the stocking doesn’t hang too low in front of the fireplace or you could have a melted mess and please make sure there’s at least one traditional candy cane in there!

• Toys – Small, plush Angry Birds stuffed animals, Sudoku cubes and an endless list of toys for kids and adults can fill this category. If it can fit in the stocking, there’s no point in wrapping it!

• Girl Stuff – Lip gloss, nail polish, emery boards, sea salts, bath scrubs, lotion, loofah, candles, hair accessories and tons of other girly items all make fantastic Christmas stocking stuffers.

• Engagement Ring – What could be better than opening all the presents so she thinks she has no chance of getting proposed to yet again this year until she gets to the toe of the stocking? It’s the perfect hiding spot too because if she tends to snoop, she won’t think to look beyond the chocolates, candies, etc.

• Movies – DVDs are super cheap around the holidays. Pick up a new release or a couple of old classics and stuff them in there!

• Odds and Ends – Key chains, paper weights, ornaments, beer or wine opener, magnets, money clips and even novelty chip clips can be used as Christmas stocking fillers. These are often things staring at you in checkout lines that you just buy because they are there and convenient.
